Ireland's OWN: Myths & Magic
Irish Legends
There are three great literary cycles to Irish Legends:
The Mythological Cycle. Early tales of romance and tragedy that feature the ancient Gods of Ireland, such as Dagda and his son Oenghus, the God of Love.
In the Ulster Cycle, the exploits of Cú Chulainn are re-told in graphic detail, culminating in the epic battle during the Cattle Raid of Cooley. Each province had it's own equivalent of the Ulster cycle, with its own heroes, etc. The Munster stories are much different than the stories of the other three provinces.
The Fionn Cycle introduces the noble champion, Finn Mac Cumhal, and his band of warriors, the Fianna (the Irish equivalent of Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table).
